Diagnostic Swab Testing

PCR testing using swab

Apollo Laboratories now offers two different diagnostic swab tests for COVID-19. The RT-PCR dry swab is tested by Quidel’s Lyra® Direct SARS-CoV-2 Assay run on the QuantStudio™ 7 Pro by Thermo Fisher, and Arbor’s TMA swab is by Hologic’s Aptima® SARS-CoV-2 Assay. These tests are both authorized for use on using respiratory specimens collected from individuals who are suspected of COVID-19 by their healthcare provider.

A positive result indicates that viral RNA from SARS-CoV-2 was detected, the patient is infected with the novel coronavirus, and presumed to be highly contagious.

Talk to your Apollo Sales representative to learn more information about the diagnostic swab assays utilized at our North Texas lab.

Total Antibody Testing

Apollo Laboratories is the only North Texas-based lab, and one of the first in the country, to offer the Roche Total Antibody assay.

Elecsys® Anti-SARS-COV-2 Serology test detects antibodies in people who have been exposed to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) that causes COVID-19 disease. This is a blood test with a turnaround time of 24-48 hours.

COVID-19 antibody testing

What’s the Sensitivity & Specificity of the Roche assay?

This serology test has a specificity greater than 99.8%, and sensitivity of 100% (14 Days post-PCR positive result confirmation).

The high specificity of the test is important to reliably determine if a person has been exposed to the virus, and if the patient has developed COVID-19 antibodies.
